Paper Offerings

Visiting Au Yeung in his tiny studio hidden in the neighborhood of Sham Shui Po, Kowloon. He’s one of Hong Kong’s paper masters creating art in paper offerings to the dead. Paper effigies are frequently used in Chinese funerals as ethnic Chinese believe the deceased still live but in another space. Chinese family members will often burn paper sculptures that imitate the appearance of real objects, believing these items will be sent to the afterlife for their ancestors to use.
