The Windbeast is back! This time because of the exhibition ‘Wu Zetian, the only female emperor of China’ in the Ceramic museum Princessehof. The first museum in Europe to bring the extraordinary story of this cosmopolitan ruler (624-705) to life, in which trade, emancipation, superstition and intrigue play a leading role. As an imperial symbol of strength, hope and transformation, Wu chose the phoenix: a bird that goes up in flames and is reborn.
In 2017, together with Famke Sinninghe Damsté, I developed a kite festival called Windbeestenfeest as an educational programme during my Master in Art Education AHK in collaboration with EYE Filmmuseum, OBA Amsterdam, primary school De Klimop, Hyperion and Metropolis Lyceum. The education team saw the Windbeast concept as a good opportunity to let the phoenix rise from its ashes for a week …
